Book Review: The Beauty by Aliya Whiteley

The Beauty by Aliya Whiteley is a weird, post-apocalyptic sort of horror story that is completely gender-bending and leaves you thinking. With nightly retellings of their history, the men who are without women reminisce about how they got to where they are and reflect on their loneliness. 

When a change in nature brings “women” back to them, it creates a divide between those who are overjoyed with the companionship and those who are fearful of this massive change. Ultimately, it brings varying degrees of death among their clan. 

The descriptions are jarring, the changes shocking, and every page leaves you thinking, “Could something like this eventually happen?” 

The Beauty will stick with you and maybe haunt your dreams. A really interesting and quick read for those looking for something completely different from the worlds you are used to. 

I am rating The Beauty 6.5 stars out of 10 stars, for the sheer mind f*ck and uniqueness of it all.
